Shooting Stars

By Melissa Kalinowski

There is a Milky Way in the meadow,
starry flowers in the grass,
Wild lilies of the valley,
Golden Alexanders, radiant beams,
twinkling Feathery false lilies,

clusters of Daisy Fleabane
and evidence of Shooting Stars:
not falling rocks,
but bright streaks of light in the green heavens,
of needle-rockets and pods hauling seeds.

Go to them. Do as the snake does with her ground-
gaze.
Drop the robe. Find your sun-stone,
curl up your body there, strong, naked,
listen to the hum of bumblebees,
fall into a daydream.

If ever adrift from the way—
creativity,
connections—follow the stars.
Commit them to memory.
      Call on them by name.
Befriend their shine—you’ll not be alone.
Only return to the nature of changing moons.

If these ground-stars grant wishes:
What is the promise sown in your heart?
